Highbury Cubs

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

I was invited to go along to Highbury Cub pack this evening and its been great.

We started with some warm-ups, talked a bit about the history of fencing and then split the pack into two groups with one practising footwork and fencing distance and the other practising a thrust and parry and adding a lunge.

They were very good at listening to commands and by the end of the evening, although we ran out of time for all of them to fence again, they had all shown some good moves and great footwork.

They nominated Mowgli for me to fence against, and Im sad to say he beat me – my only saving grace was that he was left handed! and they had tired me out……….but well done Mowgli!

Coach Development Course

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Ive just come back from an England Fencing coach development course in Nottingham at the weekend and I have learnt so much!

Spent the time with some seriously talented fencers, picked up loads of new techniques and tips and shared our favourite warm-ups, games and ideas on lesson format.

All in all, a great weekend. Beware I will be trying out the new games in my next sessions!!

24SevenChallenge 2009

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

I managed to complete the Challenge this year – it was touch and go there due to the nasty bug the family picked up the weekend before BUT……. it was great fun as usual and although I didnt manage to better my 3rd place (I came in 6th this year!) it was in a beautiful place, the people were all lovely and we raised loads of money for CLIC Sargent. So bring on next years Challenge I WILL BE READY.

Apologies,crackers and wellies!

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

I have to apologize to the Cubs that I didnt manage to fence with this week. Due to a nasty vomitting bug (courtesy of my own dear children) we have all been laid low being looked after by my mum (thankyou very much mum!)

I am just about ok now, eating crackers to catch up my fitness for this weekend when I attempt the Clic Sargent 24Seven Challenge for the 2nd year. I have managed to raise £870 for the charity and promise to finish (although I may be walking it this year ;-(

The weather for Lake Windermere is not good and I will be taking my wellies! …. and maybe some scuba gear!

Normality is expected sometime next week. Watch this space.
